Day 52 - At the final destination

1/17/2023

Mikko and Tero reached the geographic South Pole on January 17, 2023, at 3:50 pm Chilean time. The route ran from Hercules Inlet to the South Pole, and the trip took a total of 51 days and 7 hours. The trip was made without external support or assistance (unsupported & unassisted).

Statistics have not been maintained during the last few years, but according to our information:

  • Mikko is the ninth person to have completed all three poles, i.e., the North and South poles without external support, and Everest with supplemental oxygen
  • Mikko and Tero share the 15-16 places among people who have skied the North and South Poles without external support.

Thank you to our families, sponsors, and support group. This would not have been possible without you. Due to the COVID delays, this project has required extra patience from everyone.

We will write a few more articles on this blog in the coming days before we go silent. Next, we focus on resting and the journey home.
