Day 12 - Daily schedule

12/8/2022

Today we were able to ski all day in sunny weather. Gale was still there, but not particularly bad. As usual, we went both up and down; this time, fortunately, a little more up. After all, we should end up at an altitude of three kilometers.

Today was the first day we skied full hours. Traditionally, in the ski trips of the Airbone Ranger club of Finland, skiing has always been 55 minutes and a break of 5 minutes. The good thing about this periodization is that there are X hours of X legs in the circadian clock. The downside is that with this system if we say we skied for 8 hours, we actually skied for 7 hours and 20 minutes. Other expeditions here - especially the Norwegian ones, because they are the only ones you should compare yourself to in these jobs - ski for a full hour. So we also decided to change our system; as an extra bonus, the leg's ski speed - e.g. 3 km/h - tells you how many kilometers you actually cover. on leg accumulates. Our schedule at the moment, therefore, on an eight leg day is as follows:

  • 7:00 a.m. wake-up call
  • 7:00-8:30 morning cooking, breakfast, morning packing, other adjustments
  • 8:30 out of the tent (at least one person)
  • 8:30-9:00 dismantling the tent, packing the sledge
  • 9:00-18:30 skiing with a schedule of 1-hour skiing, 7.5 min break. After four legs, a half-hour lunch break.
  • 18:30-19:00 tent up and men inside. One goes to cook right away, and the other stays to finish the outside work
  • 19:00-20:45 boiling of the next day's waters, dinner, and hot chocolates, writing the evening's messages
  • 20:45-21:20 self-maintenance (talcum powder, etc.), brushing teeth, message activity continues if the messages have not gone through during cooking
  • 21:20-21:30 reporting call to ALE
  • 21:30- sleep (interrupted, but more about that another time).

As you can see from the above, with eight hours of skiing, we still have plenty of time to sleep. If (when) the skiing day is extended to nine or ten legs, we will have to tamper with our sleep.

The photo of the day illustrates the time keeper's view during a skiing leg.
